Thinking about that Ryu vs Sagat diorama

Been thinking about you ever since I saw you at the toy store...

SEXY. Unfortunately 500 SGD bucks isnt so easy for me to fork out for a diorama so I have to think twice. And Ive been thinking HARD about it. If I get my bonus salary at the end of this month, I would most definitely bring this piece home and shower tender loving attention on a daily basis.

Im a bit slow on this piece, seems like it was released back in jan this year. Limited to 400 pcs worldwide and standing at 19.5" tall, this Ryu vs Sagat diorama from Pop Culture Shock Collectibles is like every SF fan's wet dream (me included). Only complaint is that Sagat looks abit stiff, but then again he's probably in shock from getting shoryuken-ed and getting a nice oblique scar across his chest and abdominal wall.

Man Im loving those weathered jeans. I think the sculptor has a couple of these up on E bay, including a purple pants version. It's 1:2 so its a pretty damn big Hulk you'd be paying for.

What's a Venomsaurus

WTF is a Venomsaurus - that was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the teaser on Sideshow's website a couple of weeks ago. They've just released some new pictures of this new statue up for pre orders. I did some research, and apparently, it's off a Marvel spinoff called Old Man Logan. The Venom symbiote spies on Logan bonds with a T-rex (awesomeness!) and pursues him.

Not sure how well this statue will sell though.

Not liking that Prince of Persia Statue

Sideshow's new Premium Format Dastan from Disney's latest Flopbuster Prince of Persia. I can't deny I enjoyed the show, though not as much as I expected to. Seems like the movie's getting some pretty nasty reviews out there. But anyway, Im definitely not loving the statue of Dastan. On top of an awkward pose, blank drugged out stare, it's got a hefty price tag of 300 USD slapped on top of it.

The details are this figure's saving grace, I sure hope the paint job holds in mass production. Bleeding paints would be the last thing you would want to see on top of Dastan's armour.

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark V sneak peek

Saw this on the SGcollect forums today.. Couldnt imagine Hot Toys pulling it off given the complexity of the suit, but it looks pretty awesome so far! The only complaint I have is that the suit appears more scalloped, like scales in the real version in the movie:

While the sculpt shown above seems to have the scales appear as grooves in the armour. It's too small to judge and perhaps I may be wrong. Anyhow, Hot Toys nearly always delivers the good stuff (except maybe the whole issue with the BD Ironman head sculpt).
Ive watched the video below about a hundred and times and still, its awesome.

Hot toys War Machine

This is an absolutely STUNNING piece from Hot toys. A 1/6th scale (12 inch tall) replica of War Machine from Iron Man 2. The pics are enough to get my salivating. I've already made my pre order 2 months ago with the shops and its taking forever to arrive. Hot toys has a bad habit of teasing us. I may even buy 2 of these just because it looks so awesome.

Apart from the fact that everyone is raving about how fun this game is, the little knights also make some excellent paper models. Paper Hellboy Samaritan

I had no idea the Japanese dig Hellboy, but anyway, this Japanese dude has made a paper replica for the Samaritan.

Very detailed as you can see, even loadable with papercraft bullets lol. A well designed model, no doubt coming from the Japanese. Personally, I would give it some puttying and a paint job to get get rid of those irritating white lines that come with all paper models. But hey, one of the upsides of paper models is that you get to print the designs on. Most kids just print, some adults do paint so it all depends on how far you want to take it.

My Starkiller Sculpt Part I

Have you heard? Star Wars: The Force Unleashed got released today. Gaming critics hate it, but everyone else thinks it kicks ass, me included. However, I'm not getting it just of yet because I completed the demo freakin 20 over times and now Im officially bored of toying with Storm Troopers and flinging them into deep space.

So... I've been sculpting Darth Vader's Secret apprentice aka Star Killer for some time, on and off... here's the progress so far:

This baby's 1/6th scale and gonna be 12" tall. I hardly work in any other scales now... Think the chin needs some elongation, but I swear it looks better in real life. Might be the camera angle.

Storm Trooper heads make good designer papercraft

Wow, this has got to be the sweetest designer papercraft project I've seen! Some Jap guy had the brilliantest idea of taking a storm trooper helmet and transforming it into a skinnable toy. The result = a cool library of Storm Trooper helmet skins that'll look extremely cool on any Star Wars fans' desk.

What makes this project even more awesome is that, the template isn't based off polygons that are unrefined and untweaked. Instead, you'll notice that it's actually pretty well designed, making use of the curves of paper to achieve the contouring of the helmet, rather than polygons.

I thought these were pretty cool (heck, everything retrogaming looks cool these days), even though they're pretty simple to build.

Sideshow King Leonidas from 300

Wooooo~ This looks freakin sweet, trashes the NECA action figurine that can't even balance itself on my desk.

I can't decide if the second row of abs look normal, or abnormal. They look a teeny weeny bit over split, like Leonidas has some sort of abdominal wall hernia. Also, the nips and umbilicus make a sad face lol. If you stare at it for too long, the abs really start to grow on you.

The pose also looks a tad effeminate, like Leonidas is having some sort of mega wedgie, but overall, this is still a great statue to have if you're a 300 fan like me.

Freakin beautiful DC character sculpts

Saw this over at Shiflett Brothers and ConceptArt, done by the same sculptor, Tim Bruckner. Think they are absolutely stunning, tasteful takes on DC characters Penguin and Catwoman.

It's really nice how he's so daring on adding the skin folds onto the face, yet able to achieve such a nice sneering effect.

Catwoman just looks subtlely playful:

Good God, while professional sculptors like these focus on bringing out expressions and emotions, I'm still stuck on getting a simple good looking sculpt that looks proportionate. PRACTICE.

Also, a friend of mine remarked this morning how interesting it was that villains from the Batman series all had some kind of psychiatric background to their behaviour. Catwoman is probably a kleptomaniac, Joker is probably someone with an antisocial personality disorder with an appetite for chaos. And Two Face is likely a bipolar rapid cycler or multiple personality disorder, and Penguin is just fat and ugly lol.

Simon Lee aka Spiderzero

This guy is born to sculpt evil. Simon Lee aka Spiderzero is just incredibly skilled as a sculptor, and his pieces seem to sway towards stuff that looks incredibly SICK. Of course, to reach a standard when you can actually sculpt something that projects such feelings of horror and menace, you must already have loads of skill.

Behold, his latest twisted creation, a sculpt titled VOODOO.

This, seriously sends shivers down my spine. Sometimes it's difficult to wonder what goes on in the minds of sculptors like that.

As if the front is not horrifying enough, flip it around to reveal heads within heads.

-Shudder- If you are able to take it the initial shock of seeing such a piece, take a closer look at the details and the texturing. One thing that strikes me about his pieces is how well he pulls off organic texturing - these creations of abomination actually look freaking lifelike. I can almost feel the boggy texture of the skin by glancing at it.

Medicom Real Action Hero Chun Li

Okay, the action figure universe has been rather dry lately, but I saw this preview today - from toy manufacturer Medicom's Real Action Hero series that boast super articulation, detail, quality and poseability comes none other than our favourite ding-dang kicking sexy stocking touting Chinese girl, Chun Li.

I'm posting about this because, this Chun Li has the prettiest face of all the Chun Li action figures I've ever seen.

Just look at that doll-like face, doesn't it make you feel like planting a kiss on her? Okay, now I'm really starting to freak you out.

Medicom RAH Chun Li comes 12" tall, with multiple points of articulation using Medicom's proprietary Real Action Hero action figure base body. Comes Dec '08 and be prepared to fork out some cash for this, as for all RAH toys.

Cool looking Japanese robot mech papercraft thingy

Okay, the bottom line is, I have no idea what this is, but it's called the Kev-03 Rooster and it looks cool. Comes with great diagrams to guide you along, it's a pretty model, looks hi-tech and dangerous at the same time. So, why not? Only thing that bugs me are the purple colours. Blam!

The Day of the Mighty Muggs!

So I've be down for the last week, which explains the lack of cool finds on FX Console, but today, I went and got me some Mighty Muggs!! So here the story goes, I went down to China Square Central in Chinatown - it's Singapore's best kept secret for toy collectors, an entire shopping mall albeit a small scale one that's dedicated to the sale of toys. With an aim to just hella buy something to cheer myself up, I walked around for about an hour before I decided to purchase this:

Excuse my geekiness but that's the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Iron Man Mighty Mugg. It's nice and shiny with metallic paints and comes with a chromed box which makes it even more irresistable, so I whipped out my screaming wallet and pried out some fresh smelling ten dollar bills. Afterwards, I couldn't just stop at there could I? I mean, after you've bought one Mighty Mugg, he would be kind of lonely without the others.

So I wanted to get Black Costume Spiderman Mighty Mugg, and Captain America Mighty Mugg, so Shiny Iron Man Mugg would be happy to have companions. Problem was,

Spiderman = $35 SGD
Capt America = $45 SGD

On the other hand, if I bought the entire set of Wave 3 - Spiderman, Doc Oct, Thor, Ghost Rider - it would cost only $100.

After some quick math, it was obvious that I was going to end up bringing home an army of Mighty Muggs. So these guys:

are all sitting happily on my shelf right now. Hasbro must be feeling pretty Smugg right now.

What I've been doing for the last week

In case you're wondering about the lack of articles on FX Console for the last week, here's what I've been up to:

That's right, I've been having diarrhoea, severe vomitting, nausea and spiking a high fever. Apart from missing about an entire week of school (half of my valuable attachment to the psychiatric department), my life, sleep cycle and just about everything is as screwed up as it can be.

I havent eaten anything much in 3 days.

And I feel f**ked up.

Super Mario Stage Figures (Dotgraphics)

Just saw these awesome little collectibles today, Super Mario Stage figures:

Each piece is really a backdrop that comes with magnetic 3D pixel sprites from Super Mario. It comes packaged in a box that closely resembles the original cartridge. Very cool!

You can choose to arrange the character sprites in any combination you want by moving the magnets around. Comes in loads of familiar scenes from the original game. The most striking to myself would be the one where Mario jumps atop the flag at the end of the stage.

Also available, are these little boxes shaped like the goodie cubes in Super Mario that come with additional characters and items to spice up your ongoing diorama. Everything is sold at random, so you have to buy loads to collect them all. A marketting ploy no doubt, but it makes these Japanese collectibles all the more exciting to purchase.

Papercraft Mitsubishi FTO

I've been having difficulty finding good papercraft projects for you readers, so be glad this super detailed model of the Mitsubishi FTO surfaced on the web! It's very detailed, consists of many parts, you will need plastic sheets to create the windscreen and windows.

It's crazy detailed, the doors are able to open and even the interior is constructed from paper. It's supposed to be on display at the Mistubishi Museum in Japan.

I quote the author, "To reproduce the FTO's unique curved surfaces as closely as possible, there are many parts, and to successfully construct it, you will need a lot of skill and patience. Also, the headlights and window panes make use of transparent parts of OHP sheet, and perfectly recreating the cockpit is exceptionally difficult and frustrating. For those with free time and persistence, I highly recommend this challenge. Otherwise you will struggle with this one."

NECA 12" Marcus Fenix figurine

Is finally here! Just got released 3 days ago, and Play-asia has some close up shots of the figure, as well as the packaging. I'm looking forward to purchasing it, hopefully it reaches the shore of sunny Singapore by next week end -rubs hands with glee-.

I collect 12" or 1/6th scale figurines, so, having a 12" version of Marcus Fenix from my favourite shooter is a complete blast.

Looking like he has a small cranium, but that's the way muscular Locust-shredding men should be.

NECA boasts of it being heavily articulated, and as you can see, he is quite very poseable. Comes with weaponry and push button sounds - I never really dug that part of NECA figures, but still, I'm quite curious as to what his range of vocabulary would be.

Very cool, looking forward to buying this over the next week or two. And they really should come up with a 12" Carmine as well.

Dark Odyssey and Poseidon's Rage Kratos from NECA

Saw the news today that NECA is going to release two new Kratos aka God of War figurines in a series called God of War, Magic of the Gods. Personally, I've bought 2 previous God of War figurines from NECA, a 7" Kratos in Ares Armour with Blades Olympus and Lingerie of Yada Yada, as well as a 12" scale one that I absolutely detest.

Don't get me wrong, I like NECA's stuff, I think the sculpting is pretty well done, but damn, the 12" Kratos really pissed me off because it kept falling over. Plus the fact that there's no articulation at the knee, makes this piece a b*tch to balance. I can swear the picture on the back of the box shows actual knee articulation. It's fallen over so many times most of the joints have been damaged to a point where they hang loose. I actually went down to the model shop, bought myself a resin base and attached Kratos with cryocynate glue. DIE Kratos, you're forever stuck to a block of stone now.

Anyway, here's the two new super charged Kratos figurines:

Please take note: The real figurines probably won't actually look as electrifying as they do in the pictures above. Minus the photoshopped glowing bolts of electrical power, Poseidon's rage Kratos would probably be a normal Kratos albeit one with electrical bolts cast in clear resin.

Build yourself a Sonic + Shadow

I have no idea why I haven't seen these around, apparently these have been around since 2006. Guess I didn't think the pictures looked too awesome back then, but just noticed the pics from the Official Sonic team website actually do look pretty nice. You can build a nice model of Sonic the Hedgehog for your desk with these templates. Also available are various calefare characters from the SEGA franchise, just in case you want the entire blue hedgehog's family.

Hot Toys Bank Robber Joker

The Dark Knight fever has kind of settled more than a month since it's release, but the greatness of the movie still resounds in movie-buffs like me. If you can't get enough of the awesomeness of this show, here's a new 1/6th figurine from Hot Toys featuring Joker in bank robber style. If you haven't watched the show (shame on you!) this was modelled after the opening scene of the movie, where Joker robs a bank and double - no - triple crosses his accomplices.

I'm loving these pics a hell lot, the set is extremely detailed, comes with stuff like the duffel bags and 2 interchangeable heads, including a mask. And of course, guns, cards and the green stuff.

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark II

I knew it!! Hot Toys just wouldn't let their hold on the Iron Man franchise go to waste. Apart from producing the Mark III suit in 1/6 scale, Hot Toys is also releasing an uber cool metallic silver Mark II version. Okay, let's face the facts, Mark II is really Mark III with a different paint job and some bolts on the chest plate. But hey, this is still really cool. If you have 300 bucks to blow, get both pieces!

My 1/6th Ryu Statue - still in the works

Well, 3 months into the making of this piece of my childhood hero from Street Fighter II. I'm reminded of the many times I tried to sketch him in Hadouken position when I was a 10 year old child. Most of it is already done, save for some tidying up, smoothing of the clay, naturalization of the creases and some texturing.

Having little time to do sculpting actually works the opposite way - it keeps my passion in the subject alive. Everyday, 15-30 minutes of sculpting is by far more therapeutic than one shot 5-6 hour sessions. I often ended up making a mess of things in a hurry to finish the piece. As they say more haste, less speed - sculpture is an art that revolves around patience and refinement.

Of course, he wouldnt be Ryu without the trademark red headband:

I'm still debating whether I should fork our $500 Singapore dollars in cash to invest in an airbrush with a compressor. Seems like a good idea as a lifetime investment to take this hobby of mine further. Can't wait to finish this piece...

Ryu is 1/6th in scale, so he'll look perfect next to all my 12" figurines!

Naruto paper model + Stop motion

Seen those paper models of figurines floating around the internet? Like the impossibly difficult Master Chief and Cortana? One look at the templates behind these paper works are probably enough to give you nightmares for weeks. As if building them weren't difficult enough, the owner of Papercraft museum made a freakin STOP MOTION video of the process.

Imagine shifting those little bits and pieces a fraction of an inch each time, and taking a ton of pictures. Yeap, this video probably took a century to make.

No offense to anyone, or the creators of such paper master pieces, but I'm not entirely a big fan of figurines made from paper - I always felt that anything that's not polygonal is better off sculpted. But hey, this video is so completely awesome is definitely worth a look:)

R-type final Papercraft

Great paper models aren't easy to come by these days, so you can imagine my glee when I came across this TW-2 model from the game R-type final. Haven't heard of it before? Well, neither have I. That's because it's a Japanese shooter made for the previous gen console Playstation 2.

R-type final is a sidescroller Japanese shooter with futuristic aircraft. Actually, that pretty much sums up all sidescrolling shooters.

Apparently, apart from some fast paced button mashing ship blowing action, the game also sports weird names for ingame vehicles, such as Kiwi Berry, on which the paper model is based on.

Since when was Kiwi a Berry? Nevermind, the model is very cool looking, so I'd build it all the same.

The Coolest Spiderman Costume Ever

Well, so I had this extra bit of time over the last two days - convinced myself to take a break from studying for medical school examinations - and I've been doing abit of digging around in the Marvel Universe. I've been an on-and-off fan of Marvel Comics. When I was a kid, it was Spiderman this, Spiderman that, and X-men pwns you, but other than that, was not a real avid collector of comics.

So last year, I got to know Jimmy, Spencer my friends who are absolutely insane about statues of super heroes, and all this great sculpting that's going on over at Statueforums. 90% of statues over there are MARVEL or DC stuff, so it's no wonder that it has rekindled a spark of interest in me, fueled by all the recent Super Hero blockbusters lining up one after another on the big screen.

Anyways, today I went to read up on the Iron Spider, and decided that DAMN, this has got to be the coolest super hero cum super hero costume in the universe.

There's quite a bit on the origins of this red gold costume, so I'll just sum it up for you, my dear reader. Basically, Peter Parker aka friendly neighbourhood Spiderman was near death, after having power malfunctions and been defeated - including having his left eye plucked out and eaten by his enemies. It was later revealed that he was merely going through a stage in metamorphosis and would later be resurrected with new powers including night vision, the ability to sense vibrations and more. In the Marvel Civil War series, Tony Stark aka Ironman built this Spiderman a new suit hence the nickname IRON SPIDER.

Among many things, this suit was made from liquid nano fibres, and was able to appear or be concealed at will. It's also equipped with 3 prominent mechanical limbs mounted on Parker's back which are able to to serve as round the corner scopes, handling of objects and was even used in combat despite Stark mentioning that they were too delicate for battle. The Iron Spider Suit also comes with a complete Geek's arsenal of audio visual amplications including UV and IR spectrums of light, emergency police/fire department scanners, carbon filters to help Spidey cope with poisonous particles and more.

On one hand, my 23 year old sense of logic is telling me that damn, I really should grow out of this stuff, but on the flip side, it's still so insanely cool that it's appealing to my inner child. Mental verdict: Iron Spider is the coolest Super Hero ever!

R2 family in paper

This is something new from SF papercraft gallery - the entire family of R2 droids - R2A6, R2D2, R2C4, R2M5 are now up for downloads. Oh well, they are really just R2D2s with different colours, but cool nevertheless. I want an army of these to take over the galaxy with! Even Darth Vader wouldnt be able to handle the onslaught of screaming R2 droids.

I'm talking about 1:60 - 1:70 scale.. these little babies are no more than an inch tall, and shouldnt take you more than half an hour to assemble each miniscule beauty. Looks great as little tokens on your desk.

Freakin Huge Ninja Gaiden II Statue

From First4Figures comes this HUGE 18" tall statue of Ryu Hyabusa. The best part about this statue is that it looks exactly like the cover art on the game box. Together with the scythe, this beast of a statue comes up easily over 20-21" tall. That's FREAKIN huge - like the size of... say a Thanksgiving turkey standing upright.

Some solid sculpting there. I love the intricate designs on the forehead protector.

The good news is that, for those pre-ordering this baby for $139 USD, they are entitled to a free copy of Gears of War 2 Standard Edition, and eligible for an upgrade to the Limited edition for just $10 USD more.

Life Sized Heath Ledger Tribute

Bob Dullam and Causey, known for their crazy abilities for sculpting stunning likeness busts (I loved their work on the Lost Boys bust) are currently working on something that's sure to please fans of the Dark Knight and the late Heath Ledger. I think it's only befitting to have such an awesome tribute to the young actor - it was a stellar final performance - and we most certainly would remember him as one of the most exceptional from his field.

This is a WIP (works in progress) shot, so don't go about complaining about the hair and thorax. As usual, I think Bob C and D will stun us with the final outcome. It's already looking fantastic - it's like resurrecting Heath Ledger from the grave and immortalising him in clay.

Hot Toys Ironman is a masterpiece

Remember when I posted about the sneak preview shots of the Iron Man action figurine from Hot Toys? Well, I checked out the Hot Toys website today and the official pics are up, stunning as ever. If you're not familiar with this, it's a 1/6th scale figurine and it stands at 12" tall, and is one of the best action figures ever produced. If you're not convinced, check out the shots below:

Comes with a load of accessories and weapons to spice up the already stunning figure. It's so nice and shiny I'm getting fits just staring it. If I had it on my desk, I would probably spend 10 minutes a day just oggling at it. I'm already oggling at the pictures. You can't see it well on these pics, but I love the fact that the arc reactor on the chest piece is actually detailed, instead of being a flat white piece of plastic like the Hasbro version (which I foolishly bought).

And.. the JAW DROPPING SHOT of the back piece. You can actually lift the panels to expose little bits of silver machinery!

And a well sculpted Tony Stark head to go along with it. I've never liked Iron Man toys with Tony Stark's bare head - I always thought it felt like staring at him nude, and I'm not gay - but this combination is strikingly beautiful. Probably because the entire package is so well made.

I think this just might be that very first piece of toy that I'll be blowing more than a hundred bucks on. But considering how beautiful it is, it's definitely worth that ton of nagging I'm gonna get from my gf for burning a hole in my pocket.

Starcraft Marine WIP shots

Wow, I'm such a complete noob when it comes to kits and sculpture - only been into this for about a year. Today, I found out about Martin Canale and his extremely talented team at the Gore Group. Apparently, they are the same group of guys behind my all time favourite diorama - The Sideshow Hulk vs Spiderman. I only found out about that after doing some random surfing today after I saw their interesting take on Batman on the Dark Hunter kit:

Anyways, I hope Martin Canale doesn't mind me stealin these pics, but here are the WIP shots of a Starcraft Marine statue his team has been working on:

Considering how insanely difficult it is to do perfectly symmetrical armour pieces by hand, this piece must have been quite a challenge.

I can't wait for this to be finished, because I believe that armoured sculpts look completely awesome with the paint job on, and that tarnished metal thing going on. But then again, it's going to be another sculpture that I'd end up wishing very hard I have the cash to spend on. These kits are really expensive, but it's no wonder, given the time and effort spent on making them. In short, you're paying big bucks for pure awesomeness.

Miniature Paper DS Box

I won't deny this, I'm extremely honoured that someone actually made a box for that miniature Nintendo DS I made a while ago. It's one thing seeing your work on the web, and it's another seeing how much further people are willing to take it, so it really pleases me to see this. Kudos to you Katsu333, I'm really glad you made this nifty little Nintendo DS Box template, and that really cool Nintendo DS papercraft edition logo on the top right kicks some major ass as well:)

Also, I like the way the photographs are taken... they look really Japanese and clean, kindof like the stuff you'll see on crafting magazines. Awesomemo.

Give me my Muggs

I've been thinking about this seriously for the last couple of days. I won't deny this, I have a strong urge to start collecting the Muggs series from Hasbro. Yes, it would be so falling prey to yet another franchise idea from big ass toy companies. Those CEOs must be bathing in green notes on a daily basis. But damn, these Muggs do look pretty awesome. And best of all, they are pretty affordable (relative to other designer vinyl toys), retailing at approx 10+ USD each.

I mean, check out that whacked out look on Darth Maul's face - how could you NOT want to bring that home to your desk. Darth Vader looks really awesome and shiny as well. There's a growing line of Marvel super heroes as well:

Maybe I'll just get one or two: the Venom and Iron Man look pretty cool, but it's one of those things that you'll never be satisfied with just one or two. I'll prob get Darth Vader after that. But damn, Darth Vader wouldn't look good without the rest of his Star Wars friends would he?

Professor Oreo's Cloak and Dagger

Grrr... Some sculptors just have it in them, like Walter O'Neal aka Professor Oreo. He's a professional sculptor and has done many pieces for Bowen Designs, and here's a personal favourite that he has been rightfully showing off on the sculpting forums:

I guess it must have been exceeding difficult to gain access to the inside of the cloak for sculpting, but this guy has done it, each individual face maniacally detailed. Even before painting, this piece is quite a sight to behold in its plain form. Oh, I forgot to add, the reference picture at the top was drawn and painted none other by the man himself!

Just some back ground, Cloak and Dagger are Super Heroes from the Marvel Comics Universe. Cloak and Dagger were two kids transformed into dudes with super powers after agents from Silvermane used them for experimental drug testing. It was later revealed that the duo were really mutants, and that the drug had simply liberated their latent abilities.

Honda Motocompo Paper Model

This is one of those random Japanese models on random things that you've probably never heard of, unless you're based in Japan. But the reason why it's on this blog is because it looks so completely awesome you feel compelled to whip out that UHU glue laced pair of scissors to get down to some hardcore papercrafting action. Just what on earth is the Motocompo?

A simple rule of life: There are good paper models, and there are bad paper models. This happens to be part of the former. A simple subject as a scooter, but an elegantly designed, well built and not to mentioned well photographed subject brings it to a higher level.

Available in yellow and red versions, scale is 1/12th so it's pretty darn small. It says on the page in Japlish:

This paper model was designed for the advanced person.
A very advanced technique should be necessary for the handicraft.

Soul Calibur IV action figures

3D fighter Soul Calibur IV best known for its inclusion of Star Wars characters within its fighting line up has sold licensing rights for its toys to Triad toys. The promised lineup so far includes 12" and 6" action figures.

Taki is gonna be 12" (my fav scale!) and will be utilizing the Triad Otaku 1.0 female body. Mitsurugi is gonna be 6" in size. Im not too sure WHY a company would promise a weirded out line up like that with two different characters in completely two different scales, so I hope that Triad toys comes up with a better lineup in time, or it's gonna look something like this:

Consumption by Gabe Perna

When I first saw this via the Kitbuilders Magazine Gallery, I was completely blown away by high level of sculpting that this piece displays. The theme, pose, base were fantastic. While there are about a million sculpts of Venom out there, there are few which achieve that primal rage and psychological terror of being engulfed and taken over by a foreign organism, and this piece - Consumption, is one of them. Sculpted by Gabe Perna, and pictures I stole via Danno Cope's (Kitbuilder's Magazine) picture trail hehe.

The base for the win: A skull being engulfed by trails of Symbiote matter which perfectly captures the mood and what this piece is trying to project. Every sculpture is a frameshot of the 3 dimensional world frozen in time, while every sculptor struggles to make the most of that, not all the pieces actually end up being so appealing and dynamic.

I gotta get meself some epoxy sculpting compound! Those trails of gravity-defying symbiote goo could only have been made by self hardening epoxy sculpting compound or wax - right now I'm having trouble even doing capes and flowing clothes with Super Sculpey.

Wall-E papercraft - the whole family

Remember when we posted about that Official WallE papercraft? Well, a designer from Indonesia has just completed the entire damn family of robots! The characters from Disney's latest animation are practically screaming out to be made into paper models, and we're just glad some one finally got down to this.

Available are WallE himself, holding a Rubix cube, Eve, Axiom, GO4 and MO. Im not too familiar with the characters just of yet - I havent seen the film so I just might have gotten those complicated names wrong.

Either way, WallE is set to be one of the biggest animation blockbusters to hit cinemas Q3 this year. wwwwwwwhuuuuuuuuuur-aaaaaaallllllllllll-E.

Kotobukiya ARTFX Ironman

Due for release next month, Koto's tribute to the movie version of Ironman stands at 35 cm (~ 13") tall, and is proudly labelled as a piece of Fine Art statue.

Only thing I don't really like are the words - IRON MAN etched on the base in the movie's font. Kindof cheapens the entire feel of the sculpture - I prefer bases with logos, no words. But still, a very awesome piece of model to own. Check out the details on the armour plates, and that little bit of silver machinery peeking out around the collar area - that's superb detailing. Posture-wise, he looks proud from the front, but on the side view, he does look kindof effeminate lol.

Wipeout Pure papercraft models are beautiful

It's official - Wipeout vehicles make extremely beautiful paper models, as made evident by Jan Rukr's growing Wipeout Pure papercraft collection. The same guy behind the Alien's Pulse Rifle, Jan never fails to deliver, and this time is not an exception. Right now 6 vehicles are up for downloads including ships from Feisar systems, Coca Cola, Puma and Exo systems. For those new to this, the Wipeout series sports ultra cool futuristic racing vehicles that come armed with weaponry such as energy balls, missles and more. The first of this franchise was back in the days of the PS1, but it's still alive and kicking with this port version on the PSP.

Fans of the series are able to download 6 of the ships, with more promised to come.

Spiderman's a real lucky man

Phwwwwwwwwwwweeet. Peter Parker must have it going on on a nightly basis, whoever knew Mary Jane could look so completely irresistibly naughty.
This piece I spotted via Statueforum, supposed to be an San Diego Comic Con piece sculpted for Marvel Artist Mark Brook's booth, and it truly is amazing in terms of theme, sculpting prowess and painting. I really dig that Venom soft toy lying next to the chair.

Wow, this is just completely awesome. If you went to SDCC which happened over the course of the last week, you would have caught a glimpse of what mega toy manufacturer, McFarlane Toys has install for its fans. Particularly awesome are the upcoming Halo 3 toys.

Apart from showing off the upcoming Halo 3 series 3: Elite Combat - Blue Armor, Jackal Major, Spartan Scout - Crimson Armor, and Halo 3 series 4: Spartan Hayabusa - Blue Armor, Spartan Security - Olive Armor, Spartan Security - Steel Armor (see pic)

McFarlane toys also gave a sneak peak at the legendary collection series with an Arbiter, Master Chief and Brute Chieftain:

I have a feeling it's gonna be a really good year ahead, I can't wait till these start shipping. Also on display over at SDCC are the upcoming Guitar Hero toys including a 10" scale Johnny Napalm and the Call of Duty figures, as well as sneak looks at latest upcoming Spawn releases.

Papercraft Aston Martin DBR-9 1:18

Some paper models are just over the top, like this 1:18 scale Aston Martin DBR 9. It's so awesome, it even has a website of it's own.

The Aston Martin DBR 9 was first built in 2005 as a remake of the DB9 (Aston Martin's road car), retaining the chassis and V12 engine, but a re-engineered body frame made from carbon fibre, allowing for light weight and more aerodynamically finetuned performance.

That's one sweet looking model for you car enthusiasts. But beware, it could take some time to build - 11 pages long, and comes with an alternate version with red decals.

Hellboy sculpture - the works

Scott from Alias Lunatic kindly sent me the pictures of this amazing sculpture of Red aka Hellboy . The sculpt was absolutely amazing, so I had to send him a PM requesting for pictures of this piece in progress. This piece comes up to approx 10" tall including the base, with an awesome take on the character, with a little bit of Scott's own flavour injected.

The Samaritan was first made from blocks of wood and metal before clay was spread onto it and the details etched on - just check out how painstaking the process was - that thing is really small!:

Well, basically the freakin largest toy event in the universe just happened over the last week over at San Diego California - the annual San Diego Comic Convention. I've been blogging about all the awesome exclusive toys that are available over there, including a Gears of War Carmine action figure. The saddest fact is, I live literally halfway around the globe on a tiny island known as Singapore, and that I was working my butt off while all this awesomeness exploded in the States last week. But anyways, SamuelCyanide's (one of our helpful forum members) gf was actually freakin lucky enough to get a trip down, and here are some pics courtesy of xxthexfallenxx aka Samuel's super nice gf.

Live sized 1:1 scale Hulk!!!!! Damn thing looks so cool, I can't believe someone actually sculpted this, it's so freakin huge. I wonder if that's for sale.. you'd probably need a truck to bring him home:

That monster thingy from FEAST, NAAAASTY!:

Feast is basically a really awesome Horror flick produced by the likes of Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Wes Craven and Chris Moore. It takes the conventional take on the monster-stalking-a-bunch-of-folks-stranded-in-a-small-building scenario and turns it into a fast actioned and highly humourous show. B grade effects because of budget constraints (it was an entry in a reality show with competing directors), but completely awesome.

Retro Gaming Diorama papercraft special!

Woah, I just realised that there were quite a number of these really sick looking Retro Gaming Dioramas that you can DIY out of paper spread out over the vastness of the internet. There's just something about these dioramas that makes you want to build them and relieve those childhood memories of Famicom/NES bashing, Duck Hunt shooting and Donkey Kong barrel dodging.

Batman Tumbler Case Mod

Now that's what I call a bat-ass mod. This mod actually surfaced on the web early in 2007, but it's so great it deserves a revisit, especially in times like this when the Dark Knight is taking the world by storm. In case you missed my review on the Dark Knight, I think it's frickin' awesome.

All City Style Custom Papercraft Subway Cars

Every now and then, FX Console spots an ultra cool paper model project that has to be featured, just because of how cool it is. Well, I was doing some random surfing jus' now and this is one of those projects that you can't NOT feature.

All City Style is a site filled with gorgeous urban gfx and tags. This is how it works: You download the free paper model template to build a subway car that measures a whopping 20" across, and you freakin customize it anyway you want. Check out the gorgeous gallery here. Also available is a plastic version, but that you'll have to pay for. So, let's just settle for the paper version which looks just as good, for now.

I watched The Dark Knight today

And it's a masterpiece. This is possibly the best super hero movie of all time. Even the critically acclaimed Spiderman 2 doesn't come close to touching The Dark Knight. Never have I watched something that combines action and dramatic elements so well.

I wouldn't want to spoil the show for you, so I'll leave the plot out.

I don't mean that it's good because it's action packed, or has you on the edge of your seat for 2 hours. In fact there's lots of talking, lots of it.

The show is awesome beyond words because of how powerful the script and direction is. The Joker is insane, he's not motivated by money, he doesn't care about anything, he has nothing to lose and all he driven by is to bring chaos and suffering. Harvey Dent's downfall was so tragic and moving it's hard not to shed a tear for the turn of events. Each scene in the show was expertly directed to tear out the emotions from the depth of your heart - the terror of the insanity of the Joker, the sorrow for Harvey's loss, the sadness but respect for the choices Batman has to make.

At the end of it, you're left wondering in fear as to what a human is actually capable of. Throughout the show, there are no hints or suggestions of super powers or supernatural occurances, only the darkest of the human soul. That's what makes the Joker so terrifying - he's just another man, albeit an intelligent one driven to the edge.

There's an extremely powerful interplay of human emotions, of hope, of human at its best, and also at its worst. You'll be touched there's no doubt about that.

The show is also all about choices, and making sacrifices for the better of others. That's what makes a true hero.

The Dark Knight has risen above all the movies in the same genre to deliver an absolutely spectacular performance.

Also, the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is so awesome I went to buy the cd right after I came out of the theatre.

If I could give it 6/5 I would!!!

First look at Phazon Suit Samus toy

First 4 Figures unveiled their latest addition to the Samus suit series, an ultra sleek, ultra cool and ultra blingish Phazon Suit Samus (from Metroid) statue standing at approx 11.5" tall. Some background on this, the Phazon suit was created when Samus' Suit and Gun were imbibed/infected with pure Phazon but was stolen after Metroid Prime was defeated. Later, the Phazon suit was used to create one of Samus' greatest enemies: Dark Samus.

This model was replicated accurately from the ingame version and later cast in clear resin and for the finishing touch, 25 glowing LEDs were added, cum a shiny reflective base. Phew, this baby looks so awesome it's not possible to keep your hands off it if you're a Metroid fan. Lmited to 1500 pcs worldwide.

12" Medicom Metal Gear Solid 4 Raiden

Medicom's latest addition to the RAH (Real Action Heroes) line is Metal Gear Solid 4's ninja Raiden. Stands at 1/6th scale or 12" tall. I'm really excited about this, and hope it reaches local shores soon. The figure looks smashing:

For those of you new to this, Metal Gear Solid is the long living franchise spanning multiple generations of Sony video gaming consoles. Raiden aka Jack is an almost effiminate albeit ultra cool ninja character who first had a major role in Metal gear Solid 2. This version is taken off one of the biggest games to hit the Playstation 3 - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Ships this September, but already pre-ordered and sold out. Hopefully they bring in another shipment of this guy.

Super Mario plush dolls now available

NECA's half stealth predator looks like....

A mouldy condom, that's what it is. This is absolutely the freakin worst idea for a San Diego Comic Con exclusive toy EVER. Some guy thought it would look cool to have a Predator toy cast in clear plastic and have some parts painted over to resemble Predator caught in the moment of emerging from stealth mode. I think it looks so ghastly, I can't even bear to look at it anymore. I stand firm that I HATE repaints or clear casts of same toys to pass off as Comic Con exclusives.. Grrr.

Papercraft Batman Tumbler

With The Dark Knight taking the world by storm, this papercraft is something that you guys should be aware of. By the same guy, Claudio, who brought us that crazy papercraft Transformer Bumblebee, this model should take quite a while to build, but the results as you can see, are quite awesome. If you haven't watched the show yet, go watch it!! Heath Ledger's final performance is quite a show stopper. Our hearts go out to the world's loss of this talented young actor.

Gears of War Boomer Platinum statue

Pardon my French but this is the most f***ing awesome thing I've seen for weeks, no months. I almost had a fit when I saw it on Shiflett Bros' sculpting forum. Finally, an awesome Gears of War statue, of the badass Boomer! I'll let the pics do the talking:

This one is official commissioned work, done by Mindzeye Studios. 3 statues are available, Marcus the man himself, Dom Santiago and this f****ing badass Boomer. You probably can feed a village for months with that cash, but you'll be missing out on this hehe.

Papercraft Blackbird 002 PC

Almost everything gets made into papercraft these days. This installment's recommendation features a HP Blackbird PC. The Blackbird is a high end, and I mean really quite high end by my broke medical student standards, gaming PC with base specs beginning at an AMD A64X2 6000+ 3GHz processor, 256MB ATI RX630XT video card, 2GB DDR2-666 RAM, and a 500GB 7,200 RPM SATA drive.

Aliens must be the longest running franchise in the world's history or sth, and there are probably an estimated 1 billion Aliens toys out there on the market. Or at least I think so. Still, this doesn't take the novelty away. Aliens are cool. Always. Oh yes, it's 12" tall and cast in plastic.

Sideshow World of Warcraft Polystone Diorama

This polystone diorama 18" tall, with a 12" wide base. Sideshow always gets the best licenses to build crazy stuff. This is a sure must have for World of Warcraft fans. My only complaint is that the Paladin looks a little stiff, perhaps a gritted set of teeth could have made it a little dynamic. But then again, who am I to complain? This set was created by artists the likes of Pablo Viggiano, Martin Orona and more. Limited to 750 pcs world wide. Dude.

Bowen's Faux Bronze line - already sold out????

Grrrrrrrrrrr I hate it when I'm late on things. Been rather busy with work at the hospital, so by the time I saw this, news says it's already been sold out! Even before it's released! If you take a look at this Faux Bronze Line from Bowen Designs, it's no wonder why that happened - they simply look SMASHING, the Earth's mightiest super heroes immortalised in bronzed statues. Whether you're looking at it from an artistic point of view, or if you're just a superhero fan looking for cool statues, these will satisfy all your urges and desires, possibly even sexual ones.

These are sculpted in 1/6 or 12" scale, so with the base, they easily come up to 14, 15" tall. A very nice scale indeed. Thor just looks stunning, I think there's no other Marvel character who fits a bronze statue as well as he does.

How to DIY a Hellboy Samaritan

I just caught Hell Boy II : The Golden Army yesterday and it's one sick show. The effects are awesome, the storyline effective and coupled with visionary direction, it's no doubt one of the biggest movies of 2008. Let's wait till The Dark Knight hits cinemas then we can do a proper comparison. Anyways, Hellboy's primary ammunition is the big ass gun known as the Samaritan (pic).

World of Warcraft miniatures coming soon

Upper Deck Entertainment X Blizzard = one helluva miniatures collectibles game. These gorgeous World of Warcraft are a little larger than the Hero Clix series, standing at 40 mm scale tall. A little larger than the usual miniatures, but that also means we should be expecting a lot more details on the sculpt :) Can we? The pictures so far look really awesome, and they're promising some really fun, engaging game play. Characters from all 3 factions - the Alliance, the Horde and the Monsters will all be available. You'll have access to iconic characters such as Warchief Thrall, High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind, and Archmage Arugal, all brought to life in beautiful palm-size masterpieces.

What more can we ask for? WoW miniatures should be in this coming November.Click here to find out more.

Well, well, the iPhone has finally reached the shores of Asia, faster and cheaper and better than it was before. I'm feeling kind of pissy right now because I'm still deciding whether I should get it - the price is really quite affordable - I recently bought myself an LG KS20 Windows Mobile OS phone. Grr, I have an addiction to gadgets. Anyways, for those who aren't getting it, you can satisfy yourselves with a papercraft version of it.
